Union cabinet approves appointment of post of
directors to 4 new NIDs. The new NIDs are located at Vijayawada (AP), Bhopal
(MP), Jorhat (Assam), Kurukshetra (Harayana).

The Government approves Shyam Prasad Mukherjee
Rural Mission for rural Development. The aim of this project is to improve
Social, Economic and Infrastructure development in rural areas. Government
allotted 5000 crore rupees for the ambitious project and decided to develop 300
clusters across the country.

Hangzhou city chosen to host 2022 Asian Games.
It is chosen at the 34 OCA congress held at Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan. Hangzhou
was the only candidate city to bid for this event. 2018 Asian Games will be
held in Jakarta.

The Government approves employment for 150 days
at the drought hit areas under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment
Guarantee Act (MGNREA). It will provide an additional 50 days employment in the
drought hit areas where the rainfall is deficit affecting Kharif crops.

for Man Booker Prize for his fiction fiction novel “The Years of the Runaways”.

In Andhra Pradesh, the Godavari River has been
formally linked with Krishna River at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada. The pumped
water will travel through an 174 km canal to meet Krishna River.
