CURRENT AFFAIRS - SEPT 13 - 19

1.       Union cabinet approves appointment of post of directors to 4 new NIDs. The new NIDs are located at Vijayawada (AP), Bhopal (MP), Jorhat (Assam), Kurukshetra (Harayana).
2.       The Government approves Shyam Prasad Mukherjee Rural Mission for rural Development. The aim of this project is to improve Social, Economic and Infrastructure development in rural areas. Government allotted 5000 crore rupees for the ambitious project and decided to develop 300 clusters across the country.
3.       Hangzhou city chosen to host 2022 Asian Games. It is chosen at the 34 OCA congress held at Ashkhabad, Turkmenistan. Hangzhou was the only candidate city to bid for this event. 2018 Asian Games will be held in Jakarta.
4.       The Government approves employment for 150 days at the drought hit areas under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREA). It will provide an additional 50 days employment in the drought hit areas where the rainfall is deficit affecting Kharif crops.
5.       Indian origin writer Sunjeev Sahota shortlisted for Man Booker Prize for his fiction fiction novel “The Years of the Runaways”.
6.       Malcolm Turnbell sworn in as New Prime Minister of Australia.
7.       Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi and Indian Institute of Science – Bangalore got 147th and 179th rank in World’s top 200 universities.
8.       Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been selected for the United Nations Champions of the Earth award.
9.       Gujarat got first place for the state of doing business in India by World Bank report.

11.   Indian Wrestler Narsingh Pancham Yadav has secured berth for India in the 2016 Olympic Games. He was qualified after winning bronze in 76 kg Freestyle in World Wrestling Championship held at Las Vegas, USA.
12.   DRDO Scientist Dr. Satheesh Raddy conferred silver medal by Royal Aeronautical Society.
13.   Hormusji N.Cama has been elected as the chairman of PTI. And Riyad Mathews was elected as vice-president.
14.   For 2024 summer Olympics, 5 cities are announced as candidates to Host. Los Angeles, Hamburg, Rome, Paris and Budapest are the candidates. The winner to host the Olympics will be announced in 2017 IOC committee meeting at Peru in 2017.
15.   In Andhra Pradesh, the Godavari River has been formally linked with Krishna River at Ibrahimpatnam near Vijayawada. The pumped water will travel through an 174 km canal to meet Krishna River.
16.   Former West Indies cricketer Chanderpaul has been honored with the Icon award by Indo-Caribbean Alliance at a ceremony in New York.
17.   Union Government has cancelled National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) for 5 years.
18.   Metro man E. Sreedharan invited to United Nations High Level Advisory Group of Sustainable Transport (HLAG - ST).
19.   Prime Minister Narendara Modi launches National Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) to ensure 24*7 powers to all houses.
20.   Australia beat England by 3 – 2 to win the 5 match ODI series in England.
